Hot Tuna- If you are looking for something a bit more lively with happy hours that go on well into the night, Hot Tuna on the corner where Vo Thi San meets Pham Ngu Lao is a popular cafe with a cheap Vietnamese and Western menu. The most important site in Hue. Once known as the Forbidden Purple City it was home to emperors, who once ruled Vietnam. Many wars destroyed the complex and the site is slowly being reconstructed.
Located about 7km south of Hue (NOT to the west/south-west as so many websites seem to advertise!!) Sprawling collection of gardens, temples, sculptures and walking trails that showcase the best aspects of Ngu Phong Mountain. I swear that the day we visited we encountered no more than a dozen other visitors to this site, which is almost unheard of in Vietnam these days for a site as beautiful as this one. With it’s recent rise in popularity I’m sure this will change. Huyen Tran Princess Temple was one of the most unexpected, yet rewarding destinations that we unearthed. The taxi cost us around 240,000 return.
