The advantages that Nutanix delivers for healthcare are clear. Nutanix helps you:
A recent IDC study further quantified the Nutanix advantages, identifying a five-year ROI of 510% and TCO savings of 58%, with payback in just 7.5 months.
These numbers are impressive, but they are averages across a variety of industries and fail to fully account for the productivity benefits likely in healthcare. Many organizations find that healthcare workers waste 10–20 minutes per day just performing logins as they move from room to room. As an example of the potential savings, assume that a facility has 100 active clinical workers every day on average, and that reduced login times save each worker 10 minutes per day. Using a conservative average hourly rate of $50, that works out to over $300,000 in productivity savings per year.

Washington Health Benefit Exchange manages Washington Health plan finder, the official ACA-compliant health benefit exchange for the state of Washington.
The IT team chose Nutanix because it provided the required performance and availability with a smaller footprint at a very competitive price. It has been a Nutanix customer since 2012.
The Nutanix solution at Washington Health provides a number of advantages:
ONE PLATFORM, MULTIPLE WORKLOADS. The Nutanix infrastructure supports both server virtualization and VDI. Important applications include SQL Server and VMware Horizon View. Users are thrilled with the performance.
ZERO DOWNTIME. The Nutanix platform has been very reliable, contributing to overall user satisfaction.
GREATER AGILITY. The small IT team is able to turn around requests for modified desktops and new servers in minutes or hours.
SUPERIOR SUPPORT. Nutanix addresses both Nutanix and VMware support issues, simplifying the support process.
NON-DISRUPTIVE UPGRADES. As an early adopter, Washington Health has been through multiple upgrades, so it appreciates the ease of Nutanix 1-click upgrades and the improvements and new features that come with every new Nutanix release.
Houston Healthcare previously relied on PCs to supply information to its medical staff, but the average login time ranged from 45 seconds to 1.5 minutes. Physicians were wasting 20 minutes each day just logging in and out of machines, and they were unable to utilize new iOS devices with the recently added MEDITECH EHR system.
A short POC with Nutanix eliminated concerns lingering from an unsuccessful VDI deployment in 2008. Everything was up and running in a couple of hours, and after a few weeks of thorough tests, the IT team was satisfied.
Nutanix provides a number of advantages:
FAST LOGINS. Initial login takes just 20 seconds. Subsequent logins take less than eight seconds.
MOBILE ACCESS. VDI enables physicians to access patient information from a variety of mobile devices. Rather than having to use a home PC and VPN, they are now able to use iPads to check the day’s rounds.
EASIER MANAGEMENT. With hundreds of desktops, patching took ldays. Now it takes just 20 to 30 minutes to patch or upgrade the entire environment and users are not disrupted. In contrast to PCs, thin-client devices last five to seven years.
TOP-NOTCH SUPPORT. Nutanix simplifies support and eliminates the IT complexity that comes with sourcing servers and storage from multiple vendors. Even when the cause of a problem lies elsewhere, Houston Healthcare finds that the Nutanix support team is responsive and available to help.
Doctors’ Center Hospitals (DCH) in Puerto Rico was having extreme difficulty with application performance. An aging direct-attached storage system was becoming a bottleneck, and adding WAN bandwidth between facilities did not fix performance problems.
The organization chose Nutanix after a virtual POC and is now running its MEDITECH EHR system on the solution. Three of four sites also run VMware Horizon View on Nutanix to provide virtual desktops.
The Nutanix solution delivers a number of advantages:
ELIMINATION OF PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS. The critical MEDITECH EHR application is working much better, with latencies consistently below the threshold. Nutanix provides all the performance DCH needs without adding WAN bandwidth.
LOWER COSTS. The Nutanix solution is very cost-effective. A competing proposal that included Cisco UCS servers and EMC storage was considerably more expensive.
SPACE, POWER, AND LABOR SAVINGS. Replacement of all legacy systems will cut space requirements in half. That adds up to significant savings in power and labor.
EASE OF ADMINISTRATION. The DCH IT team uses Nutanix Prism for analytics, usage, and alerts to stay on top of infrastructure status. Prism gives them everything they need without resorting to multiple tools.
NEW MOBILITY INITIATIVE. Because of its overall success, DCH is now using Nutanix to support a new initiative—currently in the pilot phase—to give all physicians laptops or tablets.
