The latest batch of results show the validity of WLTP
Since launching True MPG What Car? has tested more than 1000 cars in real-world conditions, using cutting-edge test equipment to establish the real-world fuel economy of new cars. What Car’s True MPG data has now been used by more than three million visitors to the website since April 2012.
We have a fresh collection of True MPG test results this month. Incredibly, one car, the Seat Ateca 1.5 TSI, actually exceeded its official economy figure, and most got closer than was ever seen during the NEDC era, proving the more realistic nature of the new WLTP regime.
The new Citroën Berlingo 1.2 petrol came closest, with its 42.4 True MPG figure just 3% adrift of its official 41.1mpg, while the most serious under-performer was the Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2.2 diesel, which achieved a True MPG 24% short of what is officially claimed.
The most economical car tested in the month was the Volkswagen Polo 1.0 TSI 95, which achieved an impressive 51.8mpg, validating its 53.3mpg official figure.
