Teamwork makes the Dreamwork…
Us vs Them … Let the strong survive
What is your current situation with Channel and Channel Marketing Teams – is there alignment as one team?
What is the reporting structure – does the channel team report to a Channel Chief or does it report to Marketing.
If separated with an “Us vs Them” culture, this will not survive in long term. I have witnessed examples of both situations and it is a common problem.
Reporting Structure
Budget Ownership
Joint Goals
Joint Results
Reporting to eStaff / Board
How to successfully work together and get the best alignment is dependent upon how the budget process is completed and who owns the overall budget. Following on from this is how teams input to that budget and how teams compensated and rewarded.
Reporting needs to be aligned, from all contributory teams, to be best practice. I have experience of both ends of the spectrum, but key to all is the reporting alignment.
Communication is KEY, it must be often and maintained, must be open and honest and regular for true alignment.
You can never plan enough to ensure execution is the easy part. All stakeholders need to be included in planning and budgeting with partners, with regular check-ins.
Execution Execution Execution!
Everyone has to be on board and ready to participate, however complexity is the enemy of execution so make sure your plans are as simple as possible with key goals in mind throughout.
Everyone needs to have KPIs and reporting to hold them accountable. And again, regular check-ins, perhaps even daily dashboards can help keep everyone aligned and accountable – making sure everyone is hitting the mark.
If you are not currently aligned effectively how do you make that change. Firstly you need mutual trust that each team will execute effectively and are all working towards the same goals. There needs to be an ethose of one team, one goal = success.
