Wealth & Investment South Africa hosted the Investec Wealth Forum in August. The event surpassed the expectations of the organisers, drawing fulsome praise from the 1 600 clients who attended the events in Cape Town and, the following day, in Johannesburg.

Group Marketing, Wealth & Investment UK and Switzerland and Investec’s executive team all made meaningful contributions to the event’s success.The purpose of the Investec Wealth Forum was to bring together some of the best minds from within investment, politics, sport and business to share their thoughts with a select group of clients. As the name suggests, much of the event was in the form of panel discussions, where speakers shared their views on a diverse range of topics.

Some of the speakers and topicsDave Iben, Kopernik Global Investors and Sunil Thakor, Sands Capital | panel discussion with Ryan FriedmanThey discussed their investment philosophies, touching on topics like value versus growth, as well as on the companies and countries where they see opportunity.Kopernik and Sands are two of the 18 leading global fund managers who manage portfolios for Investec’s World Axis Fun.

Global Investment Strategy GroupThe Investec Wealth & Investment Global Investment Strategy Group (GISG), which featured GISG chairman John Haynes and Chris Hills, both from our UK office, Professor Brian Kantor, chief strategist and economist at Wealth & Investment SA and Annelise Peers, chief investment officer at Investec Switzerland, held a panel discussion outlining views on the global investment horizon, touching on everything from Trump, to Brexit, bonds and the role of central banks.

Touch of rugbyFormer All Black captain Sean Fitzpatrick shared his lessons on the ‘Art of Winning’ and Investec Group chief executive Stephen Koseff and chairman Fani Titi discussed the role of business and state with Zweli Mkhize, Treasurer General, African National Congress, (at the Cape Town event); and Lesetja Kganyago, Governor of the South African Reserve Bank (in Johannesburg).Local talent, global acclaimComedian Trevor Noah rounded off a day of great speakers and thought- provoking insights.
